How to crush San Francisco in two hours

Monday, December 16, 2013

One of the reasons RJ and I make such a good pair is because I love to come up with fun adventures...and he loves to make them happen. This tends to happen on a large scale and a small one:

Anna: "Let's empty our bank accounts and travel around Europe for three months while we are young and dumb. "

RJ: "okay!"

Anna: "Let's take our two young children on a road trip across four states. And then camp every night."

RJ: "I'll start the packing list."

Anna: We don't really need to be in Santa Cruz until tomorrow morning. So lets detour a bit and visit The Russian River Brewery, and maybe San Francisco too."

RJ: "The turn off for Russian River is in one mile. I'm merging now."

And that's how we found ourselves sampling the best beer in the world a few days ago as we veered a bit off course on our trek from Placerville to Capitola.
And since our new route required a jaunt through San Francisco we figured we might as well enjoy the city. Especially being the holiday season and all.

Here's how to do the city in two hours for under $25 dollars:

- hit the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset. Ooh and Ahh

- park at Ghiradelli Square and buy the kids a ridiculously overpriced sundae to share (this is to repay them for the three hours of extra drive time)

- go across the street and jump on a cable car

- play up the excitement of the hills and lights along the way so much your four year old thinks he's on an amusement park ride

- exit at Union Square and take a photo in front of the Macy's tree

- take the cable car back to your car, put the kids in jammies, buckle them up and give each other a high five: Christmas in the city - done!
