Weekend Highlights (and Lows)

I'm going to post a bunch of really cute pictures of my kids enjoying Easter. The photos show a happy family having a lovely day. And we are a happy family. And we did have a lovely day.  But if I'm going to be totally honest, I was in tears by bedtime. I missed my extended family. I was disappointed that my kids spent another holiday away from their aunts, uncles and grandparents. Growing up holidays were a big deal in our house. There was always a big family gathering complete with special outfits and loads of comfort food. I remember dying eggs with my grandfather, sleeping on grandma's living room floor with my cousins, eating too many dinner rolls with loads of butter, and silly stories from my uncle. Most of my best childhood memories collect around holidays.

Things might have felt differently if we had been able to spend more time with our church family as we had planned. However, church in the pouring rain with two littles is fairly miserable. We gave it a shot but didn't make it past the first set of worship; heading home hours earlier than we had anticipated. We even had good friends invite us over for lunch, but RJ and I were feeling a bit under-the-weather and didn't want to spread our germs.

All-in-all it was a fairly uneventful day. But sitting here blogging about it and looking at my adorable sons in their ties, I am reminded that it's always better to see the glass half full. I have a beautiful family. We are healthy and blessed beyond measure. My boys thought the day was super-fun (Easter baskets, egg-hunts, and puddle splashing! whoo-eee!!). And we have a Risen Savior. Life is Good.
