Intentional Living

Sunday, January 5, 2014

Until reading my friend Jessica's New Years post I didn't realize that the thing to do in 2014 is to pick a "word of the year." (Thanks Jessica for keeping me abreast of the tends.)

I love New Years and New Years Resolutions - it's so fun and refreshing to start a fresh chapter with a clean slate and inspiring goals. The idea of choosing one word to help focus your entire year is brilliant. Such an easy way to help stay on track and remain focused.

For the past few days I've been chewing on some different ideas; really wanting to pick the right word for this fresh, new year. After mulling and analyzing I've finally decided that my word for 2014 is INTENTIONAL.

I want to live my life intentionally.

In other words: being deliberated, calculated, conscious, and purposeful.

I love that Intentionality can be applied to all aspects life - relationships, spirituality, parenting, health, recreation, etc.

My heart yearns to be intentional in my parenting - raising my children up with the purpose to be Godly, kind, others-serving adults one day.

To be intentional about sharing Jesus with my friends and family.

Purposefully spending time with the Lord daily.

Intentional in my free-time: not wasting hours browsing the internet aimlessly or wasting energy on pointless entertainment.

Loving and caring for my husband deliberately rather than just going through the routines of everyday life.

Eating and care for my physical self with consciousness.

Intentional with finances - being a good steward of what the Lord has given us.

I've set some small, specific and calculated goals for myself as well but overall my theme for the year is to be Intentional in all the I do.

Do you do New Years Goals? I would love to hear about them!

Great word and I love that picture at the end. I actually heard someone speak on picking a word for the year a couple years ago, that's how I knew it was the "in" thing to do.

Sadly, I do not do typically do New Years Resolutions so I have nothing to share. However, I do absolutely love your "word" In fact, this quote from Henry David Thoreau has haunted me since I first heard it in High School and has somewhat guided me in life so far.

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life.."
...also, my mom really did suck marrow out of bones so I had a pretty good visual of how intense that statement is ; )
