It's so nice to spent uninterrupted time together. To have no schedule and no responsibility.
Our days have taken on a bit of a pattern. Sleep in, grab some awesome coffee and a pastry, maybe take a run, then suit up and plunge into the water. I had forgotten how much I love surfing. I've only gone out sporadically the past few years. And heading into the waves these past few days has been fantastic. It's like riding a bicycle. I was pretty rusty and first but as my confidence improves so has my surfing. And the best past is sharing it with RJ.
I wish I could give all my friends the gift if time with their spouses. It's so important, yet so easily pushed aside. RJ and I don't take enough time to be together. We easily slip into a routine where we forget to put out marriage first. I truly believe that the best way to love your kids is to love your husband/wife. So, even if it's not a full week alone, I encourage you to get a babysitter and go on a date. Or even spend intentional time together after the kids go to bed. Instead of clicking on the TV or browsing the web grab a board game. Play strip poker! Enjoy your partner. I had started seeing RJ as just my kids Daddy - forgetting that he's my best friend. (And a cute one too!)
